Sarasota Lodge No. 147 F & AM, this afternoon (May 28) became the Grand Lodge of Florida State Champion Degree Team with a Score of 985 (only three errors total in all word and floor work). To qualify for the State Competition, the Team must finish first at the District level and then obtain the highest score in Zone 7 and Zone 8 (comprising their Region) at a second competition. Teams had to be prepared to exemplify the first half of all three Degrees. The Grand Master draws the degree to be performed one hour before the competition begins. There are 5 Regions represented at the State Level and each always has outstanding representatives.
Members of the Sarasota Lodge Champion Team with stations or places they filled in the degree are as follows: William S. Paterson was Worshipful Master; John "Jud" Powell, Senior Warden; Norman Cyphers, Junior Warden; James Godshall, Senior Deacon; Andrew Wormington, Junior Deacon; Donald Crisp, Chaplain; Brian Johnston, Senior Steward; John Lee, Junior Steward; William A. Paterson, Tyler, Gilbert Fernandez was the Candidate and Rodney Fosnight served as Chairman. The Degree Team coaching staff consisted of Past Masters Frank Albinson, William Burris, Jerry Goacher, and Jud Powell who is also the current Worshipful Master of Sarasota Lodge No. 147.
